BOB WEIR AND IOANNIS CELEBRATE PARTNERSHIP WITH T.J. MARTELL

The T.J. Martell Foundation is celebrating a long and successful partnership with music industry legends Bob Weir and Ioannis with a special ceremony at SIRIUS XM Radio on February 24th. Weir, a founding member of the Grateful Dead who has also received acclaim with Ratdog and Furthur, and Ioannis, a famed artist who has designed album covers for legendary bands, have helped the T.J. Martell Foundation raise money for cancer and AIDS research for several years by generously donating autographed artwork for charity auctions. The T.J. Martell Foundation has provided over $240 million for cancer and AIDS research at leading research institutions nationwide over the past thirty-five years.

T.J. Martell Foundation CEO Peter Quinn says, “We are so grateful for Bob Weir’s generosity in autographing rock ‘n roll art and to Ioannis for donating his amazing artwork to us, all in support of life-saving cancer research. This truly represents what the Martell Foundation is all about – bringing the music industry together with cancer research to find a cure.”

The Foundation will present Bob Weir with a custom-made commemorative plaque in appreciation of his support on Wednesday, February 24th at 3pm in New York at the SIRIUS XM Radio offices at 1221 6th Avenue on the 36th floor. Bob Weir will also be autographing fifty museum quality, limited edition prints measuring 20×24 inches produced by Ioannis to be auctioned off to benefit the T.J. Martell Foundation.

URIAH HEEP SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL ART

Its only been a few weeks into the new year and Ioannis continues his collaborative association with classic rock legends URIAH HEEP by producing the art and design for the limited edition official bootleg SWEDEN ROCK FESTIVAL 2009. The art represents both elements of Celebration and Wake The Sleeper cover art and the setting is Ales stenar a famous mystical location in Sweden. Plans are that this is the beginning of what may be a 20 volume set in the years to come. Other ideas and concepts are being discussed by Ioannis and the band for 2010.

Deep Purple’s ultimate fansite the Highway Star just published a interview with Ioannis about his work and experiences with the legendary rock band. Ioannis the cover artist has created and issued three hundred (300) prints measuring 20″ X 24″ unframed. Ioannis supervised the printing of each piece individually assuring the closest reproduction to the actual artwork.

Each limited edition print is approved and individually hand signed and numbered by Ioannis and the members of URIAH HEEP, Mick Box, Trevor Bolder, Bernie Shaw, Phil Lanzon, and Russell Gilbrook

This special edition will be limited to these three hundred prints only and will never be reproduced again. DEEP PURPLE ABANDON

My first project and cover for Deep Purple, for the album Abandon and the tour that followed, the first time that it really hit me of the magnitude of this project was when I went to see the band live as their guest and saw the fans walking around wearing tshirts of my art and holding tour programs that featured my work. The high point was when the lights dimmed and the band hit the stage with massive backdrops of my work behind them I felt like a kid all over again. They also did a smoking version of Highway Star, one of my favorite songs and the second video.

ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND BEACON THEATER NY 2003

In the last few years I have frequently been the guest of Butch Trucks and the Allmans on their Beacon Theater runs, It always leaves me speechless as the concert starts and the animation of my cover art graces the screens behind them, always get a kick of seeing the expression on the fans faces. Sometimes life is cool.

URIAH HEEP WAKE THE SLEEPER 2008

I have been a URIAH HEEP fan since I was 13 years old living in Athens Greece, where they were huge. It brought a smile to my face to go online and see them hit the stage with my artwork displayed everywhere, a great band and great people especially Mick Box.

LYNYRD SKYNYRD TWENTY AND RETURN TO FOREVER

I was introduced to Lynyrd Skynyrd and was asked to work with them in the spring of 1997 and went one to design five albums for them two studio releases, two greatest hits albums and a Christmas album plus a Van Zant release for good measure. They were a fun bunch of guys and very gracious, especially Ricky Medlocke and Johnny Van Zant. I was invited several times to see them live and hang with them backstage. Of course nothing tops the first time I watched them perform in front of huge backdrops of my painting. You can see this in the first video which takes a minute to start moving even though the music starts earlier, so be patient. The final video is shot by a fan but is the only version I can find of Return to Forever that showcases the new stage and artwork, great band , great music enjoy!
